Another interesting night playing roulette and casino games

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I headed out to the casino once more after winning big the other day using some of my betting systems. This time I got about $50 in free bonuses since I actually remembered my club card. They also had a special of staying at their hotel for 50% off with $20 in additional spending money. They have a very nice luxury suite with whirlpool and room service and it all costed $120 per night ($60 last night with the special). I was very tempted in taking the deal but I just wanted to head home instead. The goal of the casino is to get people to spend even more money besides the bonus and I just didn’t feel like getting too comfortable and spending more money!

This time I decided to play blackjack and craps for awhile along with some slot machines. I was also testing out some card counting tricks that I’ve been learning for blackjack as well (which I will write about in a blog project at my blackjack site in the future).

Eventually I got to the roulette table and was playing that for awhile. I tested out the Fibonacci sequence system I wrote about a few days ago and it worked pretty well. The only problem is you need to know when to settle for profits and “reset” the series and start over. That is why I liked the 1-3-2-6 system because there is a fixed pattern where after 4 wins, you start all over again with some profits. So I switched to this system once more and came out about $200 ahead. Not as much winnings as the last time, but still much better than losing, as is expected at the casino.

I did try out a few inside bets since I wanted to try out my luck, even though these wagers tend to have the least favorable odds. Of course I decided to try out the straight up bet since this one has the greatest payouts, if you get lucky enough to have the ball land on a single number. The odds are 1 in 37, but the payouts are $35 per $1.

The bonus that the casino game to me was all free and no strings were attached to it and no special terms like you have at online casinos. I didn’t use any of that bonus the entire time I played at the casino. So before I left, I decided to bet a huge $50 on my lucky Black 13 number as my last bet of the night before I went home. The $50 was stored on my comps club card, so I could use that at the slot machines the next time I go, so I just used $50 in chips. Unfortunately (and expected), I lost the bet. Had I won this bet, I would have walked out with an additional $1750 and I would have been wagering free money that the expense of the casino. I literally had nothing to lose here!

This is a lesson that free bonus money really can make you a winning player and should be considered in your strategy, especially if you wager it all on a single bet like the straight up one.

How to become a better online roulette player

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Since many people play roulette at online casinos and over the internet, it is only logical to post some advice on how to become a better player online. There are different aspects to playing the online version over the land based one. The rules of the game itself are all the same and you are still using the same types of strategies. Even the roulette systems for betting are still the same as well.

One of the big differences in the online game are the casino bonuses. They are usually much bigger than land based casinos, but there are usually strings and terms attached to them. If you find a good bonus, you should take advantage of it because it boosts your bankroll considerably and you could even profit from the bonus if you can hold out long enough on the minimum betting requirements.

Another tip here is to make most of your wagers on the bets that have a low house edge. That means a smaller slice of your money doesn’t disappear over the long term since you usually have to play for a while or make big bets in order to finally meet the terms and cut the strings from your bonus so you can withdraw your funds eventually. Essentially, these bonuses are all free money to take advantage of.

As I’ve said many other times, players online should also choose to play on a European or single zero roulette table. This will ensure much better odds on every single bet you make. In fact, the outside bets have a house edge of 2.70% vs the huge 5.6% edge on the American or double zero roulette wheel. You would actually be losing half as much money during the same amount of time according to the mathematical odds.

Probably one of the most important things to do is play the roulette game for free with no money. That way you can practice the games and understand the rules without risk to your money. You can also experiment with all the different systems that can be used online plus learn how to apply winning roulette tips with real money. Most importantly, you can become confident with the different kinds of roulette bets as well. All of this stuff can be done online with almost zero risk.

Just to make the online experience even better, some online casinos have live dealers. That means you can play roulette online with a large number of people all playing against the same dealer over a web cam! That way you can actually see a real roulette wheel and not have to worry about the game being rigged or the computer software not working fairly. Playing at these live tables can be beneficial as well and you may even be able to socialize with people over the internet as well and learn more tips from them as well.

First time players at the casino roulette wheels

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Have you ever been to a land based “brick and mortar” casino and seen a roulette wheel, wanted to play and never did? This is something that many people have experienced as well. I’ve noticed that many people tend to shy away from playing at the roulette wheel and it seems to stem from a number of reasons. One reason tends to come from anxiety, shyness and not being confident in the game. There are a number of ways to get rid of the nervous feelings and eventually hitting up the tables.

The first thing to realize is just about everyone has had that feeling at one point or another. All the professionals had to start at some point or another and play roulette as the “new guy”. Plus you have to actually play and practice the game to get good at it.

For people who don’t even know how to play roulette, it’s easy to practice by playing online. You don’t even have to bet money either, basically you can visit our flash roulette game and play for free. That way you can practice the game and get comfortable with the rules and strategies in the comfort of your own home and at your own time. You can play by yourself in case you are worried about upsetting people. This is the way to get confident in the rules of the game.

Now if you are nervous do to social pressures in a real casino, the first thing to realize is that everyone at the table probably doesn’t know you. They will be concentrating on the game more than the other players. This will make it much easier for people to approach the table without the feeling that everyone’s attention is on you. After a short time and a few spins, you should be getting used to the game and warmed up enough. It can also help by bringing a friend along as well, especially if they know the game.

If you actually don’t know the game, just let everyone know that you don’t know how to play or ask the dealer. It’s actually the croupier’s (dealer) job to let everyone know what the rules are. You can ask the dealer at any time and they should be friendly with you, at least a good dealer should. If the dealer is rude and doesn’t want to take the time to answer a few quick questions, then you shouldn’t take any time giving them a tip!

Roulette is a social game so everyone is usually friendly and they see new players all the time. It is still good etiquette to not ask way too many questions to the players who are trying to play. A good word of advice is if you plan on asking tons of questions and taking a long time to think, then the best time to approach the table is when it is not as busy and gain experience with just one or two people playing (which is how I did it). Otherwise a great way to learn the game is to watch as a spectator by sitting at the rail. By the way, players do not have to bet on every single spin, they can sit out for a few spins and just watch the game, so you should never have to rush through and risk losing a ton of money.

Using betting systems and different strategies at the casino

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

I went to the casino last night to try out some of the different roulette systems that I’ve been talking about over the past few days. The first thing I did was practice some of them online using the free flash roulette game. It didn’t take long to get a good grasp of how each one worked. After I tried them out, I confidently headed out the the casino in an attempt to play roulette.

I tried out the Paroli system first, which is the one where you double your bets after every win. It is the one where you also risk all of your profits. I really liked this one, but it really is unsafe and dissatisfying after you lose. I actually won 5 times in a row starting with a $5 bet for a profit of $155. Then I got greedy by trying to win 6 times in a row with a single $160 bet on red. As usual when a streak gets really big, I lost on the 6th wager and ended up with a net loss of $5…

The Paroli is great for getting a rush because roulette gets really exciting after the big money starts getting in and the streaks get longer. The key is trying to figure out when to quit. After losing, this big bet, I just decided to play some slots for awhile to cool off for awhile and get my mind in tune again after the big rush.

Next, I tried out the Parlay system. This one is exactly like the Paroli, except I decided to just wager 50% of my profits after consecutive wins. There wasn’t very many winning or losing streaks, maybe 2 or 3 in a row but that was it. When the results start getting spotty, these “streak dependent” systems don’t work too well. The good thing was the fact that I was keeping some of the profits after each win rather than risking them all. The bad part was that I wasn’t winning as much and the losses kind of offset the profits, so I didn’t lose as much. As expected, this system wasn’t very exciting but it wasn’t nearly as risky either.

Finally, I started using the 1-3-2-6 system. This one was really working well because the streaks were not very long, but they weren’t spotty either. The streak of 4 wins is quite common in games like roulette, especially last night. I made an original wager of $5 on black and then completed an entire cycle of 4 wins in a row for a profit of $60. It only took about 4 minutes to do! After the cycle was over, I started betting on red since I knew that was coming up soon. As soon as I did this, the ball landed on red 4 times in a row and I won an additional $60 profit! So I switched off to black again. Amazingly, the ball landed on red 2 more times (and I lost two times as well).

For awhile, the ball on the roulette wheel started landing on red or black in streaks of 1, 2 or 3 for awhile. It was kind of neutral where I was winning as much as I was losing and sort of breaking even. Every once in awhile the ball would land on green (single zero on European wheel) and everyone would lose (which is why zero tends to be known as the house number). I actually won about 5 of these 1-3-2-6 cycles, including a cycle where I used $10 instead of $5 units, giving me a $120 profit. All in all, I won $600 in profit at the casino and I believe the 1-3-2-6 is the best and funnest system to use that night!

Where to find compatible online casinos for Macintosh computers

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

If you own a Macintosh or Apple “Mac” computers, you may have noticed how often online casino software is incompatible with this operating system. The explanation is simple actually and the solution is easy. I will tell you about two of the best casinos that I know of that are completely compatible with the Mac.

The story starts with why you can’t play online casino games on your Macintosh OS. The developers of this software designed their system around Windows. The reason is there are many more people using Windows than Mac, even though many more people are starting to switch. The developers of this software are starting to make versions available for Mac and even Linux. Most casino software doesn’t work because of the file types. Windows uses the “.exe” executable file extension to their applications and programs whereas the Macintosh uses a different setup.

Many people swear by their Mac as having better security than Windows. If you own a Mac, you may be surprised to know that the reason why security seems to be so good with the Mac is because computer hackers are more interested in targeting Windows because most people have that OS. There are too few people with a Mac for them to bother switching to a different coding and hacking style for the Mac! This is most certainly going to change in the future as more and more people switch.

OK, enough with the technical stuff, you are here on this blog looking for compatible Macintosh casinos online. Rushmore and Cherry Red casinos are Mac compatible and they are two of the best ones out there that I know of. They also accept US players believe it or not! So check them out. I know they are offering a $7,777 sign up bonus and the high roller bonuses were up to $35,000 the last time I looked. I also know they have tons of other promotions, but you can browse through all of them because they change too frequently to post all of them on this blog. Also, their games have some of the best graphics and smooth game play around, including their roulette.

Playing roulette at online casinos vs land-based “brick and motar” casinos

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

This topic is interesting for anyone who has never been to or played roulette at any casino. There are some massive differences between playing roulette or any other casino game online vs driving out to your local casino. Land based casinos and online casinos both have their advantages and disadvantages.

The biggest advantage of playing over the internet is the fact that you don’t have to travel anywhere and you can actually gamble in your own home. That means no dressing up or driving for miles to get to a casino so you can play roulette. That same benefit is also a disadvantage though. Roulette is one of those “social” types of casino games, meaning you will miss out on meeting people and getting out of the house. It just depends on what type of person you are. Playing online can be great if you are sick of loud or drunk people.

Another advantage of playing at home is you can be doing anything else like chatting on facebook, watching TV or cooking up food. You also don’t need to think about etiquette. Another boon is the fact that many online casinos have a much wider variety of games. This is important because some American based casinos only have the American roulette wheel, which has those bad odds I keep talking about.

Still, even with the convenient online software, many people would prefer going to Las Vegas obvious. Vegas would have the ideal selection of games and extremely high betting limits, resorts and all the other great benefits. The problem is most people live 100s or even 1000s of miles away and Vegas is usually reserved for annual vacations. It’s costly even to just go to Vegas, not to mention having enough money to gamble for awhile. This is why online casinos are great for times when you just want to gamble every now and then.

Here are a few great online casinos with many different variations of roulette. Wild Jack and All Slots casino both have over 400 games available. Also, Rushmore and Cherry Red casinos both accept US players. Check out their sites for their promotions if you are interested.

I won big playing roulette and using a winning system

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I took another trip down to the local land based casino again and tried out a roulette system I wrote about a few days ago. This time I tried out the Labouchere betting system. This is the one where you write down a series of numbers and cross them off after you win, or add the total of both sides of the series and add it to the end if you lose.

I made a list of numbers in order from 1 to 10 before even heading out to the casino and I used $5 denomination chips, so it was getting up towards high roller figures. I made a promise with myself that if the numbers add up and the series starts getting numbers like 20, then I would quit, just in case a bad night was happening.

So The first bet I made was with the number: 1+10 = 11 chips, or $55. I won this and marked off the 1 and 10 and added the next ones in line, 2 and 9 for another $55 bet. I was happy that I won 3 in a row. I was doing the common red vs black outside bets on the European roulette wheel for the best odds possible. Basically I lost a few and won a few and my series number never got above 13. All it would have taken was 5 wins in a row to complete the series and I would have won around $275 in about a half hour or so. I was on the roulette table for less than one hour and I walked away with over $400 in winnings, some of which came from other bets as well. All my numbers were crossed out and that was it.

This just shows how these betting systems and risk management strategies win in the short term and why it pays to walk away when you are ahead. Other than that, I played on nickel and quarter slots for about 3 hours and came out $50 on those, so this was a great profit and a great night to play!

Have you heard of the Red Snake and Black Snake bets?

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

There are two very similar types of roulette bets that most people don’t know about but you hear them once in awhile at the roulette table. Actually, they aren’t very special but they sound arcane and use words in the usual gambling “slang” language. As you may have guessed, they are just bets based on the red or black colors on the roulette wheel.

People look at the table and see alternating colors along with numbers. You can actually see a connecting series of red colors, known as the Red Snake. There is also a series of black numbers that are connected to make up the Black Snake (sort of). Basically when you announce or call out these snake bets, the croupier will usually know what you are talking about.

I found a great picture on Wikipedia to illustrate which numbers to select in order to make a “Red Snake”. The numbers included in this bet are: 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32 and 24. Note that this doesn’t really improve your odds or anything, but it’s just peculiar type of bet to try and mix up the table a little bit. This is more part of the socializing and entertainment going on at the table. Though some people tend to use this for better luck. It just depends on how you are feeling and if you think this bet will be good. Most importantly, this bet is very convenient to the croupier because they know exactly what the snake is. It is much better announcing this bet rather than naming off each number one by one!

Red Snake Bet

Note that the Black Snake really isn’t official. Many people assume that since there is a red one, there must be an opposite black one. Notice that you cannot make a correct snake out of the black spots in the same shape as the red ones. For that, you would probably have to call out the numbers one by one, which could be annoying and tedious for the dealer. I would probably stay away from the black snake unless the dealer knows what to do here since there is no one way to do it like the red one.

The Labouchere roulette system for bet management

Friday, March 5th, 2010

I’m going to talk a little bit about another famous free roulette system known as the Labouchere strategy. This is another one of those types of betting systems like the Martingale, Parlay and D’Alembert, which are all free to use and represent some pattern or style used in betting. First off, this is a negative progression type of strategy, but it is much more conservative and safer than the Martingale.

The characteristics of this system can be complex and you might want to bring a piece of paper or something in order to keep track. The Labouchere uses series of numbers that you need to keep track of. For instance, you can start off with the numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Each number will represent the number of chips you will bet on the table.

When you make your first bet, you will just need to add the numbers on both sides of the series or 1+5 = 6  chips. Note that you can write down the numbers in the series in any order. If you win this bet, you will cross off the 1 and 5 from the list of numbers and you will be left with 2, 3 and 4. Although if you lose the bet, you have to add the number 6 to the end of the original series so that you now have: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

So you just continue doing this until all the numbers are crossed off as in a type of cycle. This is great bankroll management if you want to walk into a casino and start playing roulette or any other game. Basically you can set up a series before you even play the game and mentally make a decision to walk out with a profit when all the numbers are cross out. That way you don’t stay in the game too long and lose against the house edge. The only thing dangerous about this system happens when you start losing a lot. Then you start adding large numbers to the end of the series and each bet becomes larger. Still, this is an interesting way of playing and many people swear that this is a winning roulette system, at least in helping you walk away with profits at the right time.

Cheating at roulette using the “Top Hatting” strategy

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Roulette is one of the hardest games that you can cheat with. It’s not as easy as cheating in blackjack, where you can count the cards yourself. You can cheat at craps if you build up dice control techniques, but how do you cheat at roulette when you have no control of the game events? You can’t touch the ball or the wheel, nor can you influence the game.

One common way is with biased wheels, which requires you to bring in some computer software and record winning numbers over a very long period of time. Nowadays, casinos have the best engineered wheels possible to prevent this and it’s very hard trying to conceal a computer and count numbers for a sufficient period of time.

Another way to cheat is know as Top Hatting. This is a type of collusion between  a player and a dealer. Both of them are know that they are cheating and will split the profits won from the casino. The top hatting strategy basically works by having the croupier (roulette dealer) spin the wheel and having the ball land on a number. Immediately afterwards, the dealer puts a chip on the table on this number. Top hatting is basically betting on a number after the results are known.

This is still tricky because there are still cameras watching and possible pit bosses observing the table. Though, if no one is watching closely enough, the dealer just has to move near the table and cleverly and deceptively drop a chip on the number. All it takes is a single $1000 sneak chip drop on the Straight-Up bet single number, and the player will win $35,000, which will usually be split with the dealer!
