Vernal equinox and taking a break from roulette

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Greetings everyone, today is the Vernal equinox or the first day of Spring! I’ve decided that since I’ve been posting about roulette every single day for the past few months of winter that I will be taking a break from posting for awhile. That way Google, Yahoo and Bing search engines will be given a chance pick up my posts and give readers a chance to find and read my materials for awhile.

I will be working on some other blogs related to other casino games and start getting those built up. I will link to these sites once they have been built up a little more like this blog, so you will have more interesting articles and blog posts about other games besides roulette.

Also, if you like this blog, please add us to your blogroll or to your websites so we can get a boost in visitor traffic. I should be back in a few weeks or possibly a few months to freshen up this roulette blog some more, especially if more visitors get an interest and become active here. I will be back soon so please bookmark us!

Star Trek: First Contact, and other Star Trek series

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

This post isn’t roulette related but thought I would add it to the blog anyways. I saw a few Star Trek movies lately that were very good. One was Star Trek: Nemesis and the other was Star Trek: First Contact. Both of them are based on the series of Next Generation with Captain Picard, Data, Riker, Geordi, Worf and those guys.

Which one does everyone like? I thought First Contact was probably the greatest movie ever made in the Star Trek franchise. Nemesis sucked only because Data got killed at the end, even though a new Data was there with all his original memories. It was a good movie, but still…

Also, I think Next Generation was the best series followed by “Enterprise” and then “Voyager”. Deep Space 9 was probably my least favorite, but I haven’t seen this series at all lately in the re-runs. I’m surprised this show has been off the air for so long without ANY re-runs being shown in years as far as I know. Though it’s kind of a close between Enterprise and Voyager. I’m not sure which of these two are better though.

The latest Star Trek movie with a younger Spock and Captain kirk sucked I thought! This was probably one of the worst films made in the franchise because of the story line. For anyone who is a true Star Trek fan, it was a huge middle finger to the fans because the planet Vulcan was destroyed, which was always there in the original series. That just screwed everything up in the time line. Not to mention the fact that no one in future came in to stop the time traveling disaster according to the Temporal Accords agreements made throughout the series about having no one interfering with the timeline. The only way this can turn out good is if the “time police” come in and fix everything in a second movie like they talk about in the “Enterprise” series.

I used a winning Parlay roulette system last night

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I hit up the local casino again to try out some roulette strategies and systems. Basically it was a winning night for me this time. I also got around to playing some Baccarat, a few slot machines of course and a few hands of blackjack. The system I tried out was a positive progression system, which is very conservative and safe. It also doesn’t require a huge bankroll and doesn’t take on as much risk as the Martingale system I talked about yesterday.

This system is known as the Parlay betting system. Basically it’s the exact opposite of the Martingale and requires some of the same properties which rely on long streaks. Basically I started off by wagering $5 on black. Then if I lose, then I continue betting $5. If I win on this bet, my next bet is $10. If I win again, the next bet would go to $20, $40, $80 and so on.

Well, I didn’t play this roulette game very long and I walked out with a profit. The ball landed on black 4 times in a row giving me a profit of $80. Luckily I decided to stop doubling-down after 4 wins and start the cycle over with a $5 bet. I lost at this point and then lost a few more times before getting another streak that lasted 4 in a row, giving me a profit of about $150.

I was happy about how this strategy worked, but the key is to end the cycle at some point. It is imperative that you cut the cycle at some point because you will always lose in the long run and end up with a net $5 lose after every possible loss. I will write a little bit about this strategy some more later. Other than that, it was quite an exciting night!

More events at the local casino

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Last night I hit up the casino again. It was sort of an interesting night because they had a major raffle ticket contest going on. One guy won a $20,000 brand new pontoon boat and another guy won a snowmobile. These are both surely some awesome prizes but I would personally try and sell any of these and settle for just the cash instead!

Other than that, it was just slot machines, a little bit of roulette and some blackjack for once. There was also a loud drunk guy that had to be removed from the casino unfortunately for banging on the slot machine in the row behind me. Apparently he accused the slot machine of stealing money from him and apparently the casino accused him of being drunk and out of his mind lol.

As for the roulette, the central theme of this blog, not much interesting happened here as well. I went to the table with $100 and walked away with about $30. One of the lessons in gambling and a great tip is to walk away when your night is not going well. If your hot, you are hot. If you are not, then you are not… Otherwise I would have just walked out with $100 lose instead of $30.

What is Russian Roulette?

Monday, February 8th, 2010

You may have all heard about American roulette, French and European roulette but Russian roulette is sort of unique game that people have heard about but never knew what it was. Actually, Russian roulette has nothing to do with your ordinary casino games or spinning a ball around a wheel and making bets on a table. In fact, it does relate to spinning a bullet around in a revolver though.

As the name suggests, this game was invented by the Russians in the 19th century. Many say that it was brought up by prison guards in Russia. It was stated in some stories that the guards would play this game with the prisoners. Other stories suggest that the game was invented by the Russian army where soldiers would play the game as a way to show off their toughness, bravery and to impress people. Of course it was a stupid way for them to do this. Though, these are just guesses on when the game was made since no one really knows for sure or that the cowboys of the wild west invented it.

In the late 1800’s, the Russian army had standard double action revolvers called Nagants. Revolvers of course were required for this game, particularly any revolver with six shots in it. A soldier would put a single bullet in the chamber and spin it around, then put the gun to their heads and pull the trigger. If nothing happens, the gun is handed off to the opponent who pulls the trigger on their head. There is a 16.7% chance that the bullet is in any of the six slots in the bullet chamber, meaning that’s the chance that you would be shot.

Some would consider this an extreme form of gambling. In one case, two wealthy men would play this suicidal game and wager everything they have. Whoever gets shot would lose the game and probably die. The winner would take everything the loser possessed including their home, money and land.

This may seem so unbelievable to be true but people have actually played this game and died. Famous people like William Shockley, who helped invent the transistor and won a Noble Prize in Physics was said to play Russian roulette solo by himself. Some say that Johnny Ace, a blues musician killed himself playing solo Russian roulette. Though the KEY to the game is to use a spinning revolver. Some people have died trying to play this game with a semi-automatic pistol without ever thinking that the odds are 100% that a bullet will be shot when the trigger is pulled…

Another night at the casino

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Last time I went, I won big time with 1369 to 1 odds when the roulette wheel hit the same number twice. This time I went, I decided to play some slot machines and a little bit of roulette. There was one guy who was betting high roller stakes at the roulette table of $100 on red or black. I happened to notice that he was actually trying to use the Martingale strategy.

I was going to try and say something about it not working with a $1000 table limit. Obviously he would have to mess up his system after about 4 losses or so since the table would not allow him to bet more than $1000. I didn’t tell him anything just in case he wasn’t using this system. Realistically though, the Martingale would work great with $1 or even $5 bets since anyone could double the previous bet after each loss before losing it all after 10 losses in a row before the table limit.

Not much happened with me, I tried experimenting with the 1-3-2-6 betting system for while and sort of broke even with that slight loss on a lame night. No major luck streaks, yet no major losing streaks. Overall, I enjoy heading to the casino just to get out of the house now and then.

Got some awesome Goodyear tires!

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I bought a van last year and was told that I would eventually need tires on it. Unfortunately, whenever I had to travel around, there was always a huge blizzard or snow storm where the highways would be covered with white snow. Just bad luck and bad odds ironically!  The speed limit would be like 65 but you would need to go 30 just to be safe from slipping. After spinning out a few times (luckily at night when there was no traffic), I knew I desperately needed tires.

So I looked around for good deals in this bad economy and found tires for about $66 per tire here. After checking around, some places asked for $450 to $600 as the minimum price for the cheapest tires and installation. Finally I checked out Wal-Mart and found that they had a great deal of $60 per tire. I figured they would be some cheap no-name brand that I would have to replace next year…

My luck struck nicely when I heard that the tires I was getting was Goodyear extra trac! Not only were these the cheapest tires I could find, they were also from one of the best and most reputable brands around. Got the whole install on all 4 tires including balance for $290 roughly so I’m lovin it. I probably will not have to replace these for a few years and I won’t have to think about spending a ton of money on them. The van no longer vibrates at high speeds (unbalanced tires) and the 2-wheel drive works great even on snowy roads. One less thing off my mine.

Pro Bowl before Superbowl?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I found out recently that the pro bowl is going to be played before the Superbowl. The NFL commissioner seems to think this will draw a greater crowd and make the pro bowl successful. I thought I would say what I think about that. Basically all the top players and “pros” are pretty much going to the super bowl. In case you didn’t know, anyone who is going to the Superbowl will not be allowed to participate in the pro bowl. Obviously because they don’t want their players getting injured right before the Superbowl, which is far more important.

So what’s the point of calling it the pro bowl when all the best players are not going to be playing? I don’t get it and I think it’s a dumb decision.
